Kuwait & Qatar reach semi-finals of ACC U-19 Asia Cup Western Qualifiers

U-19 teams of Kuwait and Qatar qualified for the semi-finals of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup Western region Qualifiers today at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Kuwait U-19 remained unbeaten in the group stage as they beat Iran U-19 by 113 runs in their final group match. Kuwait batted first and posted 203/7 in a 45 overs contest with Nomaan Sidiq (55 off 87) and Abdul Haseeb (52 off 73) getting half-centuries and put up a 72 runs partnership for the 4th wicket. Anash Ashfaq (23 n.o off 18) played a quickfire cameo in the end to take the score past 200.

Zahed Afarin (5/40) collected a 5-for for Iran U-19. Mohammad Nasir (1/31) also bowled economically to provide good support to Afarin.

In reply, Iran U-19 batsmen were never there in the hunt with wickets falling regularly for them. They could manage to score only 90/9 in their 45 overs with Najib Derafsheh (30 off 54) providing only resistance and played freely. Abdul Haseeb (2/5), Nomaan Sidiq (2/12) and Jandu Hamoud Amanullah (2/12) returned good figures with Abdul Sadiq & Anash Ashfaq also picking up a wicket apiece.

Maldives U-19 missed out on their opportunity as they lost to Qatar U-19 by 6 wickets. Maldives were bowled out for only 91 runs in 31.2 overs. Wimalasena I S (37 off 54) and Jashnani T S (20 off 45) managed to put together a 44 runs partnership for the 4th wicket but once they got out, Maldives lower order could not add more runs.

Samil Valiyapurayil (4/23) was the pick of the bowlers for Qatar U-19 and got good support from Obaid Hassan (2/17).

Qatar U-19 lost 4 wickets in-route to 92/4 in 30.2 overs with openers, Hussain Khan (20 off 63) and Darren D’souza (20 off 27) providing a steady start and Khalid Moiz Siddiqi (30 n.o off 53) playing the anchor role later and took the team to victory and a semi-final berth.

Mushtafa M A (2/21) and Mafaaz Hossain (2/24) picked up the 4 wickets to fall between them. Oman and UAE have already qualified from the other group and their final group match amongst themselves will decide the semi-final line-up, tomorrow.
