U-19 teams from Kuwait and Qatar registered victories over Maldives U-19 and Iran U-19 respectively on the opening day action from the ACC U-19 Asia Cup Western region Qualifiers in Malaysia.
With both matches affected by rain and wet outfield, both were played under reduced overs. While Kuwait U-19 and Maldives U-19 played a 45 overs match, Qatar & Iran played a even shorter 26 overs match.
Kuwait U-19 beat Maldives U-19 by a big margin of 178 runs with Jandu Amoud Hamanullah picking up 5/4 and A Ashfaq collected 3/3 to bowl out Maldives for 56 runs in 23.5 overs chasing 235 for victory.
Earlier, Kuwait U-19 posted 234/8 in their 45 overs with Gokul Sunil Kumar (50 off 80) & Abdul Haseeb (53 off 44) scoring half-centuries and Abdul Sadiq playing a whirlwind cameo in the end (30 n.o off 15) to take Qatar to their final total. Muzammil I E (3/42) & Mafaaz Hussain (3/45) were the pick of the bowlers for Maldives U-19.
In the 2nd curtailed match, Qatar U-19 batted first and posted 150/6 in their 26 overs. Hussain Khan (43 off 61) and Jassim (32 off 15) made the most runs for the team whereas Ali Jadgal (2/27) was the most successful bowler for Iran U-19.
In reply, Iran were reduced to 58/4 in the 17th over before Najib Derafsheh (32 off 38) helped the team get to 114/5 in their 26 overs but losing the match by 36 runs.
Khalid Moiz Siddiqi (2/24) and Samil Valiyapurayil (2/21) were the pick of the bowlers for Qatar U-19.
