Kuwait Cricket (KC) have announced that seven women’s players have been selected for national contracts for 2021, based on ICC eligibility and other performance criteria’s including future prospects of continued residency in the State of Kuwait for stability and consistency in the national squad of women’s.
In a move that enables young girls to join the sport in a semi-professional or professional manner in the country, the domestic and international development of players will be taken care of in an appropriate manner with financial stability in place. Six players have been awarded category “A” contracts while one player is placed in category “B”, but the eventual plan for the board is to have around 20 players under national contracts b 2023/2024.
The entire squad will also benefit by getting match fees for playing in ICC (International Cricket Council) and ACC (Asian Cricket Council) matches and tournaments, along with bi-lateral series as well. In the event of winning tournaments and bi-lateral series, there will be other incentives also on offer. Kuwait cricket thus becomes one of the few Associate cricket boards to have both men’s and women’s players under national contracts.
Depending upon COVID-19 pandemic situation, Kuwait Women squad are scheduled for two events in 2021, including the ACC Women’s Asia Cup qualifiers and ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers. Both the tournaments are currently scheduled to be hosted by Malaysia in the later half of the year.
