Malaysia will host the 8-nation U19 Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Eastern regional qualifiers in May 2019.
U19 team’s from Nepal, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Bhutan, China and Myanmar will take part in the tournament, which will be played in the 50-overs format. The top two countries in the qualifiers will advance to the main draw of 2019 ACC U19 Asia Cup in Jul/Aug 2019 in Sri Lanka and also the 2020 ACC U19 Asia Cup in Dec 2020 in UAE.
U19 Team’s from Nepal, Malaysia and Singapore will also be involved in the 2020 ICC U19 World Cup Asia Division 1 qualifiers, also due to be held in Malaysia in Apr 2019. The Western region qualifiers (UAE, Kuwait and Qatar) though will get to play a preparatory tournament in the form of the ACC U19 Asia Cup Western regional qualifiers in Feb 2019.
Nepal U19 missed out in the previously held ICC U19 World Cup Asia Division 1 qualifiers, losing to Afghanistan in 2017. Their performance in the 2018 ACC U19 Asia Cup held in Bangladesh was not too satisfactory either. However, the National coach and selectors will have ample time to select the squad and hold training sessions before a busy period of International cricket starts for the U19 players.
Oman and Kuwait qualified from Asia Division 2 qualifiers for ICC U19 World Cup and will have a good opportunity to continue the development and try to secure their spots in both 2020 ICC U19 World Cup and main draw of ACC U19 Asia Cup.
