MCC conclude successful Chile leg of South America tour

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), who are currently touring Chile and Brazil as part of their first overseas tours in 2018, have successfully completed the Chilean leg of the tour and have moved onto Brazil for the remainder of the tour.

The Chilean leg involved three matches. MCC played Prince of Wales Country Club in a 30-overs match to start their tour and won it comprehensively by 169 runs. Evan Flowers was the star with the bat as he scored 109 runs and Reinhardt Strydom (56), Doug Mullholland (61) and Oliver Uffindal (55 n.o) contributed well with the bat which saw MCC amass 328/5 in their innings.

Guy Hooper (41) and Chris Emmott (33) played well for the host’s but were hard done by the steep chase as they got bowled out for 159 in 27 overs. Rohan Bhome picked up 5/32 for his bowling efforts.

Next two matches saw MCC take on both Chile and Peru national squads in T20 matches. MCC managed to post 158/6 in their 20 overs against Chile with Richard Soulsby (51 retired hurt) and Fabian Taylor (49) leading the run charts. Irfan Mir (2/28) and Jack Ingles (2/28) were the pick of the bowlers for Chile.

Sohi Singh (24) and Amit Shah (34) provided a good stand at the top of the order but a flurry of wickets in the middle overs dented Chile’s chase as they got bowled out for 101 in 17.5 overs to lose the match by 57 runs. Rohan Bhome was once again amongst the wickets as he picked up 4/19 in his spell off 4 overs. Joseph Barrs (2/15) and Oliver Uffindal (2/20) also picked up couple of wickets.

Next up for MCC were the Peruvian national side, against whom they racked up 208/6 in their 20 overs. Reinhardt Strydom (54), Karl Pearson (39), George Thurstance (34) and Richard Soulsby (25) provided the impetus to MCC’s innings. Tim Messner (1/23) bowled nicely in his spell off 4 overs.

In reply, Peru were bowled out for 75 runs in 18 overs with Matt Spry (18 n.o) scoring the highest amongst the Peru batters. Mark Fowler (2/13) and Doug Mulholland (2/4) picked up a brace while Oliver Uffindal and Rohan Bhome also picked up a wicket apiece.

MCC move onto the Brazilian leg of the tour which will see them play a 30-overs and two T20 matches against Brazil national side before taking on Carioca Cricket Club in two T20 and one 40-overs a side match to conclude the tour on 18th Mar 2018.
