Mozambique Cricket Association (MCA) have announced their 18-member Women’s national squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa regional qualifiers in Botswana from September 07th – 20th, 2021. Mozambique Women will be part of the 11-nation tournament, from which the winner will advance directly to the global qualifiers, but the 2nd place finish in the tournament will have equal importance, as the best 2nd placed finish among all the regional qualifiers (Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe and East Asia-Pacific) in terms of team rankings at the cut-off date will take the final spot in the 10-nation global qualifiers.
Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) will be hosting Women’s teams from Zimbabwe, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Cameroon, Mozambique, Nigeria and Swaziland during the tournament, which will be live streamed by ICC (ICC TV), in collaboration with IMG Media on their digital channels.
Group A includes host’s Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, while Group B includes Cameroon, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda. The selected players have played in domestic T20 tournament held from May 08th – 31st, 2021 at Malkerns Country club ground. Mozambique Women’s last International assignment was in October 2019, when they toured Malawi for a bi-lateral T20I series with the similar squad they have chosen for the ICC qualifiers in 2021. They are also one of the countries to have played at Gaborone Oval previously, when they took part in the Botswana 7s Tournament held in 2018.
