Namibia and Ireland Wolves share spoils in tough series in South Africa

Namibia men’s national squad got their 2020 season underway with a tough overseas tour of South Africa, where they played a series of five T20 matches and two 50-overs matches against Ireland Wolves squad from Feb 21st – 28th, 2020. While Ireland Wolves were the runaway winners in the T20 series, Namibia got back to winning ways by claiming the 50-overs leg of the tour with wins in both the matches.

The series provided Namibia players the opportunity to get back to action in the middle in white-ball cricket, as they prepare themselves to host the visiting Netherlands squad in Mar/Apr 2020. The likes of Niko Davin, Nicole Loftie-Eaton, Karl Birkenstock, Jan-Izak de Villiers and Ruben Trumpelmann got the chance to impress the coaching staff ahead of the big home season. Captain Gerhard Erasmus and Criag Williams were the standout performers throughout the T20 and 50-overs matches.

Namibia came back to playing in South Africa after sometime as they pulled out of playing in the CSA provincial season due to financial constraints. Ireland Wolves squad will play a T20 game against Northerns Academy to conclude their tour on 29th Feb 2020. The Wolves support staff were forced to play Academy players James Cameron Dow and Mike Frost as some of the squad members were taken ill during the tour.
