The time keeps getting better for Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane. After a successful stint with Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 VIVO IPL (Indian Premier League) and recently played Hurricane Relief T20I match between ICC World XI and West Indies at Lord’s, he is now Canada-bound for yet another T20 League.
Sandeep Lamichhane was picked up in Round 6 of the player’s draft by Montreal Tigers, where he will team up with the likes of Sunil Narine from West Indies and Lasith Malinga from Sri Lanka. The final squads for all the teams will be unveiled at the end of the draft in Toronto. Montreal Tigers will be coached by Sunrisers Hyderabad Head Coach, Tom Moody.
The tournament has been officially sanctioned by International Cricket Council (ICC) and the inaugural edition will be held from 28th Jun – 15th Jul, 2018 at Maple Leaf Cricket Club in Toronto. A total of 22 matches, including playoffs and the final will be played in the inaugural edition of the league.
The six teams for the inaugural edition are Toronto Nationals, Montreal Tigers, Edmonton Royals, Vancouver Knights, Winnipeg Hawks and a Caribbean All Stars team from West Indies.
Chris Gayle (West Indies), Andre Russell (West Indies), Shahid Afridi (Pakistan), Darren Sammy (West Indies), Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka), Steve Smith (Australia), Chris Lynn (Australia), Sunil Narine (West Indies), David Miller (South Africa) & Dwayne Bravo (West Indies) are some of the big names in International Cricket, who have been named as the Marquee players for the draft, and will be among the 1600 players from 43 countries, who have registered for the Global T20 Player draft. Out of the total number of 1600, 600 players are expected from Canada itself and the rest from around the globe.
Cricket Canada Chairman, Ranjit Saini also unveiled the draft pick order in which the teams will pick the Marquee players and the rest of the squad to build their 16-member squads. Toronto Nationals will get to pick first in the draft followed by Vancouver Knights, Winnipeg Hawks, Edmonton Royals & Montreal Tigers. Caribbean All Stars from Cricket West Indies won’t be part of the draft as their squad will be pre-selected from players from the Caribbean Islands.

The Winning team in the Inaugural edition will walk away with a winning purse of USD 500 Thousand while the Runners-Up will pocket USD 250 Thousand. The tournament official logo was created by Amstel Marketing from New York.
