Dutch audiences to see county players in action at home for the first time

The Netherlands national men’s cricket team’s upcoming 3-match ODI series against Ireland to be played on 02nd, 04th and 07th June in Utrecht will be broadcasted live on television by Ziggo Sport, the first time that cricket is being broadcast live on television in the Netherlands, with Dutch commentary. This strategy is being seen as a positive move to grow the consumption base in the Netherlands, which is predominantly occupied by football and field hockey viewership.

Netherlands squad also welcomes back Timm van der Gugten, Brandon Glover and Fred Klassen, along with a debutant in Musa Ahmed for the series. The pace-bowling trio have been playing county cricket for their respective clubs in the UK, and will strengthen the bowling department along with Vivian Kingma and Logan van Beek.

The series, which part of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League (CWC Super League) qualification pathway towards 2023 edition of the tournament in India sees the Dutch play 24 ODI matches against 8 of the full member countries between 2021 and 2022. While the Ireland series will mark the beginning of their campaign in the Super League, in 2022, the Netherlands will host England, Pakistan and the West Indies at home as per their schedule.
