Netherlands pile-up big runs on day 1 of I-Cup match against Namibia

An unbroken partnership of 253 runs between Roelof van der Merwe and Maxwell O’Dowd propelled Netherlands to a mammoth 400/5 in 96 overs at the end of day 1 action of their ICC Intercontinental Cup match against Namibia.

van der Merwe (157 n.o off 169) and Max O’Dowd (109 n.o off 192) scored centuries on a productive day for the dutch side with Ben Cooper (65 off 100) and Wesley Barresi (34 off 52) also contributing towards the total. Peter Borren had a forgettable outing as he got out first ball without troubling the scorers.

A very tiring day at the field for Namibia who ended up using 8 bowlers throughout the day. Major damage was done by Craig Williams (3/47 off 12) with Bernard Scholtz (1/80) and Colin Peake (1/80) claiming a wicket apiece.

Netherlands will look to score even more on day 2 and ensure that they bat only once and bowl out Namibia twice in the next 3 days.
