Koninklijke Dederlandse Cricket Bond (KNCB) have announced their 15-member Women’s national squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe from November 23rd – December 05th, 2021.
The Dutch ladies squad will be competing against teams from the West Indies, Papua New Guinea, Ireland, and Sri Lanka in the group phase of the World Cup Qualifiers, seeking to qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 in New Zealand. The top three (3) teams in the World Cup Qualifiers advance to the 2022 tournament main draw, while a top five (5) finish will ensure qualification in the next cycle of Women’s ODI Championship, which is the qualification pathway program towards Women’s World Cup events.
The squad has not played International matches in the 50-overs format for a while now, with all their major games in 2021 being in the T20 format, when they toured Ireland for bi-lateral series and Spain for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe qualifiers. National coach Shane Deitz will be buoyed by the availability of Sterre Kalis for the tournament, who was not part of the squad during the Spain tour. Kalis has had an impressive domestic season in England’s Women’s County Championship tournaments in both T20 and 50-overs formats.
The squad will travel to Zimbabwe on 07th November and will play an exhibition game against Zimbabwe Women on 19th November 2021.
