Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) have announced the senior Women’s squad for the upcoming 5-nation Women’s T20I tournament being held in Rwanda from June 06th – 12th, which is an annual tournament intended to pay homage to the victims of the Kwibuka genocide against the Tutsi community in Rwanda in 1994.
Nigeria Women will be competing against team’s from Botswana, Kenya, Namibia and the host’s in a single round-robin group stage competition, followed by the semifinals and the finals/third place play-off. Hence, four teams out of the five in the competition will get to play maximum of six T20Is, that will carry ranking points towards ICC Women’s T20I team rankings table. The matches are very crucial for all the countries, as they will again meet each other during the ICC Africa regional qualifiers for 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Botswana.
The squad was chosen from a provisional squad of 40 Women’s players chosen from across the country. The list was down to 22 players before the final 15 names were announced after training and practice matches held in Abuja. Nigeria Women’s previous International assignment came in September 2019, when they played a Bi-lateral T20I series against Rwanda Women, which they won 3-2 (including super over win in the 2nd game after the scores were tied at the end of the match).
