Oman announce squad for ICC World Cricket League Division 2 in Namibia

Oman Cricket (OC) announced a strong 14-member squad for the upcoming ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 2 tournament to be organised at Windhoek, Namibia from February 8th to 15th, 2017.

Oman selectors have handed debut opportunities to fast bowlers Kaleemullah, Ahmed Fayyaz Butt and spin all-rounder Jay Odedara in the squad. Sultan Ahmed will once again lead the side with Zeeshan Maqsood named as his deputy for the 6-team event. Duleep Mendis coached Oman has made significant climb in World Cricket since last year as they qualified from both ICC WCL Division 4 and Division 3 events to reach Division 2.

Oman have had good preparations leading upto Division 2 with series wins over USA and Hong Kong in last month and all the national squad members have been active in the domestic 50-overs tournament.

Oman along with Canada, Kenya, UAE, Nepal and host’s Namibia will be competing in the tournament for the final 2 spots reserved for ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Mar 2018 in Zimbabwe.

Sultan Ahmed (Captain), Zeeshan Maqsood (Vice-captain), Jatinder Singh, Aqib Ilyas, Khawar Ali, Vaibhav Wategaonkar, Ajay Lalcheta, Mohammed Nadeem, Jay Odedara, Bilal Khan, Swapnil Khadye, Mohammed Naseem, Kaleemullah & Ahmad Fayyaz Butt

Reserve Players: Sufyan Mahmood, Nestar Dhamba, Baadal Singh and Mehran Khan.
