Oman continue USA dominance in Division 2 despite Ali Khan’s fiery burst

Oman continued their healthy rivalry against United States of America (USA) with yet another victory over their rivals in the opening group match in ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 2 match played at United Cricket Club ground in Windhoek.

Both Oman and USA have had extensive preparations coming into the tournament perhaps as two of the favourites to claim the 4 ODI spots on offer, but the slow and low track at United ground due to overcast conditions and soggy outfield made it almost impossible for batsmen from both the camps to play freely and attacking strokes throughout the day.

Oman pace bowlers took full advantage of the conditions as they skittled out USA for only 148 runs on board in their 38th over. Oman survived a fiery spell by Ali Khan, who reduced them to 17/3 inside the first 10 overs and later came back to pick up the 4th wicket for Oman to fall as well, but the rest of the bowling line-up came up short as they failed to penetrate the 5th wicket partnership of 97 runs between Suraj Kumar (50) and Mohammad Nadeem (55), who took Oman to victory.

Team USA had a scare when Jaskaran Malhotra was hit by a bouncer from Mohammad Nadeem, and took a short trip to the hospital as a precaution, but came back later to resume his innings after he was declared ok by the medical staff to continue.

Brief Scores:

USA 148 all out in 37.5 overs (Roy Silva 33, Monank Patel 25, Timil Patel 20, Fayyaz Butt 3/23, Zeeshan Maqsood 2/24, Bilal Khan 2/32, Kaleemullah 2/41) lost to Oman 152/4 in 47.5 overs (Mohammad Nadeem 55 n.o, Suraj Kumar 50 n.o, Zeeshan Maqsood 28, Ali Khan 4/27) by 6 wickets
