Oman completed an emphatic 10-wicket win over Uganda to remain unbeaten throughout the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 at home and secured the trophy and their place in World Cricket League Division 2 in 2019.
Bilal Khan’s 4-wicket haul and Fayyaz Butt’s 5-wicket haul dismantled the Ugandan batting line-up completely, as they got bowled out for only 59 runs on board in 29 overs. Oman openers completed the chase in their 18th over with all wickets intact.
Oman had already secured their spot in Division 2 after winning a close contest in their previous match against USA and will now compete next in the 2018 ACC Emerging Nations Asia Cup, with their group matches against India, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka slated to take place in Colombo.
Jatinder Singh (225 runs in 5 innings) was Oman’s highest run-scorer, followed by Zeeshan Maqsood (145 runs in 4 innings) and Aqib Ilyas (137 runs in 4 innings), while Bilal Khan (12 wickets in 5 innings) was their highest wicket-taker, followed by Kaleemullah (9 wickets in 5 innings), Fayyaz Butt and Jay Odedra (both picking 7 wickets each in 5 innings).
Oman were relegated to Division 3 after they failed to stay in top 4 spots in Division 2 held in 2018 earlier and will once again travel to the same venues to have another crack at advancing forward and claim one of the 4 ODI status spots available in the tournament into ICC CWC League 2.
