Suspension of sporting events puts League 2 event in March at risk

Oman Cricket (OC) has been handed a big blow as the The Sultanate of Oman has banned all group events, including international conferences, sports events and exhibitions from 04th February until further notice, in a tightening of measures against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Earlier, Oman Cricket (OC) were vying for the hosting rights for the Test and T20I series between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in February 2021, which is now rescheduled for March and will take place in UAE. OC got approval from ICC to host Test matches at their OC Oval 1 ground in January 2021.

The latest suspension of events will affect the ongoing domestic 50-overs competition, while also putting the scheduled ODI tri-series in CWC League 2 at risk, which is expected to take place from March 19th – 28th, 2021. Oman were to host men’s national squads of USA and Nepal in the competition.

Oman Cricket were working towards increasing the seating capacity at the ground, however, with the new restrictions, all the plans will be put under hold until further notice from the government.
