Paras scored a rare double over Zimbabwe in World Cup Qualifiers

The opening match for Nepal and Zimbabwe in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers brought lots of fond memories for Nepal’s captain, Paras Khadka. And the story has taken almost 10 years in the making.

It was under Paras’s captaincy that Nepal had defeated Zimbabwe in ICC U-19 World Cup in 2008. And after almost 10 years, he once again led Nepal senior side against Zimbabwe in the 2018 CWC qualifiers.

Nepal could not progress beyond the group stages into Super Six, but managed to claim the final ODI status spot after defeating Papua New Guinea in the play-off’s to finish as the 3rd best Associate team finish after Scotland and UAE (Netherlands not counted as they were already guaranteed ODI status following their win in the 2015-2017 World Cricket League Championships.

Khadka will be hoping for more International matches against Zimbabwe in the near future as Nepal look to become one of the strong nations in the Asian sub-continent in the Associate ranks.
