Following discussions between Netherlands Cricket Board (KNCB) and Peter Borren after the conclusion of World Cup Qualifiers with regards to WorldT20 qualification and ODI League (2020-2022), a mutual agreement was made with Borren stepping down as Captain and also announcing his retirement from International Cricket.
In a shocking decision, Borren has left the Dutch scene after leading them for 9 years and in what will be a big transition period for Netherlands Cricket before they take part in the ODI League to try and qualify directly for 2023 Cricket World Cup, Pieter Seelaar has been appointed as the new Netherlands Captain.

Christchurch born Borren, played for Canterbury ‘A’ and New Zealand U19’s, having represented them at the U19 World Cup in 2001-2002, before switching over to Netherlands. Borren was part of the first group of Netherlands players to receive central contracts in Jan 2010 before being announced as the Dutch captain in ICC WCL Division One in Jul 2010.
Borren made his ODI debut in 2006 against Sri Lanka and T20I debut against Kenya in 2008 and has since then represented Netherlands in 58 ODI’s making 1004 runs and 43 T20I’s, scoring 638 runs. A handy all-rounder with his medium pace bowling, he has also picked up 46 ODI and 18 T20I wickets.
Borren’s proud moment came in Dec 2017 when Netherlands won the ICC World Cricket League Championship and qualified as the 13th nation in the ODI League from 2020-2022.
