More T20I action is coming our way from Europe, as Cricket Romania will be hosting the 2021 Continental T20I Cup from September 02nd – 05th at the Moara Vlasiei Cricket Ground. Romania will host men’s teams from Malta, Luxembourg, Hungary, Czech Republic and Bulgaria in the 6-nation event.
With travel restrictions getting a bit relaxed between European Union countries, many countries are now arranging matches/series to make up for the disappointment of losing out on playing in the European sub-regional qualifiers for 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Czech Republic hosted the 3-nation Central Europe Cup in May 2021, Bulgaria hosted the 4-nation Sofia T20I tournament in June 2021 and Malta hosted Belgium for bi-lateral T20I series in July and toured Portugal for a Tri-series in August.
The teams have been split into two groups, with the top two in each group progressing to the semi-finals. Host’s Romania are grouped alongside Malta and Luxembourg, while Hungary, Czech Republic and Bulgaria are grouped together in the competition. Romania Cricket Board have announced a 20-member national squad for the tournament.
