Saudi Arabia selectors have announced the 14-member squad for the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Western Region T20 to be held in Oman from Jan 18th – 25th, 2019.
Saudi Arabia will be competing against Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Maldives in a single round-robin format group stage, following which the top 2 teams will contest the final. Following ICC’s decision to award T20I status to men’s International T20 matches from 01st Jan 2019 onwards, all matches in the tournament will carry official T20I status.
This is turn ensures that all the participants in the event will make their T20I team debuts after the scheduled event was postponed twice towards the end of 2018, in which case all matches would have been regular T20 International matches between the Associate members.
All the teams were most recently involved together in the Asia sub-regional T20 World Cup qualifiers in 2018, held in Kuwait, from which Kuwait and Qatar secured promotion along with UAE. Saudi players have been involved in National T20 tournament at home prior to travelling to Oman for the ACC event.
