Cricket Oman (OC) have replaced Cricket Hong Kong (CHK) as host’s for the first round of ICC CWC (Cricket World Cup) Challenge League Group B from Dec 02nd – 12th, 2019, as announced by International Cricket Council. Oman will host team’s from Hong Kong, Kenya, Uganda, Jersey, Bermuda and Italy in Group B.
Each nation in both the groups will play each other in a single round-robin group format. All matches in CWC Challenge Leagues will be official List-A matches. Each nation in either groups (A & B) will play a total of 15 List-A matches (spread across 3 set of tournaments each from 2019-2021). The top team in both the groups at the end of the league will advance to ICC CWC Qualifiers play-off tournament, where they will compete with the bottom 4 team’s from CWC League 2, for the final 2 spots into the 2022 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers.
The Bottom 2 teams from both the groups in the Challenge League will be relegated to Cricket World Cup Challenge League Play-off, where they will compete with the regional qualifiers to earn the place in the next cycle of CWC Challenge League.
The venue was moved from Hong Kong due to the ongoing political demonstrations being held within the city, which would have created issues for the logistics and transportation during the tournament. Hong Kong, Jersey, Kenya and Bermuda were in action in the recently concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifiers in UAE.
