Oman Cricket Board (OC) will be hosting as many as 4 countries from Oct 05th – 10th, 2019, as they finalize preparatory plans before ICC Men’s T20 World Cup global qualifiers in UAE in Oct/Nov 2019. All matches will be played at the OC turf grounds in Al Amerat and will carry official T20I status with ranking points on offer.
Oman Cricket will play host’s to Cricket Ireland, Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (KNCB), Cricket Hong Kong and Nepal Cricket Team in a 5-nation T20I series, approved by International Cricket Council (ICC).
Oman, Ireland, Netherlands and Hong Kong qualified directly for the Global Qualifiers on virtue of being in the Top 6 rankings outside the global Top 10 teams in the ICC T20I team rankings on 31st Dec 2018. However, Nepal, missed out on the opportunity in the Asian qualifiers, losing the spot to host’s Singapore in Jul 2019.
Oman Cricket (OC) have also announced that Decision Review System (DRS) will be used for reviewing umpiring decisions on run-out’s, stumping and no balls during all the matches. The matches will be produced by a broadcasting network and live stream will be available on Oman Cricket’s website and YouTube channel.
The tournament will provide Nepal with much required competitive cricket to rebuild their young and inexperienced team, as they begin their quest towards qualification for 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup in CWC League 2 competition. They will be playing their first T20I game against a Full member nation in over five years after their previous one came during World T20 tournament in 2014 in Bangladesh.
For Hong Kong, it will be a start of a busy period, which will see them host the first leg of CWC Challenge League in Nov 2019, after the conclusion of the Global Qualifiers.
Oman will provide similar conditions to that the teams will encounter in UAE, and Ireland and Netherlands have already been to the country in Feb 2019, when they played a T20I quadrangular series involving the host’s and Scotland.
