The schedule for the 2020 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa from Jan 17th – Feb 09th, 2019 has been announced, with 16-nations (11 full members + 5 regional Associate members) set to compete for the U19 Showpiece event across four cities and eight venues in the country.
The 16 participating countries have been divided into 4 groups of 4 team’s each in a single round-robin group stage format, with the second phase dividing the teams into Super League and Plate tournaments stages of the event. The top two teams from each of the four groups advance to the Super League while the remaining teams feature in the Plate championship.
All the participating countries will play warm-up matches from Jan 12th – 15th in Johannesburg and Pretoria. Potchefstroom, Bloemfontein, Benoni and Kimberley will be the hosting cities for the entire tournament, with The JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom hosting two Super League quarterfinals, both semi-finals and the final.
Japan (East Asia-Pacific) and Nigeria (Africa) will be making their maiden appearance in the U19 Cricket World Cup, after winning their respective regional qualifiers in 2019. The other regional qualifiers include UAE (Asia), Scotland (Europe) and Canada (Americas).
