Scotland announce squad for ODI, I-Cup & WCL tour of UAE

Cricket Scotland have announced a 14-member squad for their upcoming tour of UAE, where they play 2 ODI’s against Papua New Guinea followed by I-Cup & WCL final round of matches against Ireland and Kenya respectively.

Head Coach Grant Bradburn was full of praise for the new trio after their elevation to the squad was confirmed, “It is one of the special privileges as Head Coach to phone a new player to let him know he’s been selected to play for his country. All three players are buzzing and so excited to be selected for Dubai. While their call up to represent Scotland may have come earlier than they expected, these three young players are all desperate and well capable of taking this opportunity with both hands.”

“The selectors have held strong to our Selection Pathways and policies. We are pleased to be rewarding three young Scottish men who have all earned their opportunity through hard work and performance at Regional and A level. Now we have our team in place, we are all determined to keep focus on our job in Dubai.”

Stuart Whittingham & Josh Davey are notable absentees from the squad following recent changes to ICC Eligibility Regulations passed by the ICC in late October this year. A number of Scotland international players currently playing in the English county system have been forced to make themselves unavailable for selection at this time, in order to safeguard their county careers.

Scotland Cricket will work with ICC, ECB, Players and their respective counties to work on a solution to make them available for national duties.

Scotland are currently third in the WCL Championship points table and a win in the 2 matches against Kenya will assure them a spot in the World Cup Qualifiers.
