Scotland qualify for 2020 U19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa

Scotland U19 team has won the U19 Europe qualifiers in Netherlands and maintained an unbeaten run in the tournament to qualify for 2020 U19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa. Scotland U19 saw off the challenge from Ireland U19, Netherlands U19, Denmark U19, Jersey U19 and France U19 to book their spot in the U19 World Cup, in which they will appear after a 4 year gap, with 2016 edition in Bangladesh being their last apperance to date.

Scotland had a firm footing in the qualifying spot after their win over Ireland U19 in the penultimate round of the single round-robin group phase format. Ireland U19 finished runners-up in the tournament, while Jersey U19 defeated the host’s Netherlands in the final group game to finish 3rd in the overall points table. The match between Ireland and Scotland was always going to be the decider of sorts, after both countries were unbeaten in their first 3 games in the group. However, a 47-runs margin win was a rather comfortable win for the scots over their neighbouring rivals. Ireland, thus miss out, but could still be in contention if Zimbabwe are not allowed to take part in the U19 World Cup, following the suspension of their cricket board and if not re-instated before the World Cup.
