Calum McLeod’s belligerent knock of 154 runs single-handedly took Scotland to both safety and victory in the 1st WCL match against Papua New Guinea by 101 runs @Amini Park.
McLeod’s innings coupled with good knocks from Ritchie Barrington (54 off 69) & Kyle Coetzer (46 off 41) took Scotland to 278/9 in their 50 overs with Scotland losing 7/35 in their last 5 overs. Papua New Guinea bowlers bowled brilliantly in the death overs to restrict them going beyond 300.
Norman Vanua (3/57) & Alei Nao (3/40) were the pick of the bowlers for PNG.
Papua New Guinea batsmen struggled against the Scottish bowlers from the start of their innings as they were reduced to 85/5 in the 21st over. Only Tony Ura (42 off 52), Mahuru Dai (25 off 51) & Dogodo Bau (28 off 46) managed to score some runs against their names as Scotland bowlers kept picking wickets regularly to leave them at 140/8 in the 36th over.
It was mere formalities after that as PNG finished their innings getting bowled out for 177 in 43.3 overs with Scotland victorious by 101 runs. The 2nd match will be played on 8th October, 2017 at the same venue.
