ICC have announced after the conclusion of their board meeting in Dubai, that the Global Qualifiers for 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held from Aug 31st – Sep 07th, 2019 and will take place in Scotland.
6 countries from the regional qualifying finals will join Ireland Women and Bangladesh Women in the 8-nation event, from which the top 2 members will advance to the 2020 Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia.
The regional qualifiers have already begun with the recently concluded Asia qualifiers held in Thailand, in which the host’s remained unbeaten to secure the lone qualifying spot into the global qualifiers. As per the previous ICC annual meeting, one team per region will be qualifying for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier in 2019 and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Global Qualifier in 2020.
With the WCQ host’s guaranteed direct qualification into the global qualifiers, Scotland Women will be heading directly into the tournament; however, they will participate in the European region finals as scheduled currently along with Netherlands Women and Germany Women, with the most logical selection being between Netherlands and Germany for the European qualifier into the global qualifiers.
