Scottish/Emirati resurgence and Jersey/PNG winning starts as Dutch consolidate

Scotland and United Arab Emirates made amends to get back to winning ways to keep their campaign alive in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers, while Netherlands notched up their 2nd consecutive win of the tournament and Jersey/Papua New Guinea started their campaign’s on a winning note on the 2nd day of action from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Netherlands registered their 2nd win in a row to on top of the points table in their group, with their bowlers delivering a convincing team effort to bowl out Namibia below 100 to defend a par-score of 140. Papua New Guinea’s Norman Vanua claimed the first hat-trick of the tournament against Bermuda, and their low total was chased down in rapid pace with PNG captain Assad Vala leading from the front with the bat.

Jersey put in a strong performane with the bat, however, there were plenty of lapses in Nigeria’s ground fielding and something the team management needs to have a good look at if they want to remain competitive in the remaining games in their group. Jersey’s total was always out of the reach for the Nigerians, as Jersey bowlers chipped away with wickets at regular intervals. Scotland’s batting display was scratchy and Tom Sole’s counter-attack a the back-end took their total to 170 and while Kenya looked very much in the fight through the halfway stage of their chase, they lost wickets in a flurry in the later stages to give up their hopes of challenging the Scots.

UAE needed a win to keep their tournament campaign on track after a shoddy performance in their opening game against Oman, and Rohan Mustafa provided the all-round performance the team needed to claim the victory over Ireland, who skittled out for a below par total, with Paul Stirling continuing his good form from the first game, while the rest of the line-up failing to put up the support act around his innings.
