Simmons takes over as Head Coach for Afghanistan ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Afghanistan Cricket Board have announced the appointment of West Indian, Phil Simmons as the new Head Coach for the national side ahead of the all important World Cup Qualifiers.

Simmons has worked as an consulting coach for the Afghan side and will take over the reins from Australian Dean Jones, who served as an interim coach for Afghanistan’s I-Cup tour of Hong Kong few months ago.

Simmons has worked as Head Coach for Ireland and West Indies earlier. A prolific all-rounder in his playing days, Simmons represented West Indies inĀ 26 Tests and 143 ODIs between 1987 and 1999.

His first assignment will come in Feb 2018, when Afghanistan take on Zimbabwe in an ODI and T20I series in UAE.
