South Africa & Bangladesh make winning starts in 2017 Hong Kong Sixes

Defending champions from the last time held edition of Hong Kong Sixes from 2012, South Africa, made a winning start to the 2017 campaign as they beat host’s Hong Kong comfortably in the opening match of the event. Bangladesh too stunned Sri Lanka to record their 1st victory in the tournament.

Hong Kong batted first and posted 95/5 in their 5 overs. However, the bowling gave away the match as Proteas coasted to 96/1 in only 4. overs to win the match by 5 wickets.

Babar Hayat (35 off 10) & Aizaz Khan (21 off 6) were the main scorers for Hong Kong while Corne Dry (2/18) was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa.

Sarel Erwee (34 off 12), F Sayanwala (33 off 10) & Ferisco Adams (20 n.o off 4) made short work of the target, reaching it in 4.4 overs.

In the 2nd match, Bangladesh took on Sri Lanka. Bangladesh managed to post 93/5 in their 5 overs. The team then stunned Sri Lanka by restricting them to 86/3 in their 5 overs to win the match by 7 runs.

Saif Hasan (46 n.o off 12) & Afif Hossain (22 off 9) helped the team get to 93. Farveez Maharoof, Binod Rajapakse & Jeevan Mendis collected a wicket apiece.

Rajapakse (31 n.o off 13) & Angelo Perera (22 off 8) kept the team in the hunt for the target but a brilliant final over by Monirul saw Sri Lanka fail to score 24 runs and reach only 86/3. Afif, Saif & Monirul collected a wicket apiece.
