Cricket Switzerland restructure 2021 domestic competitions ahead of ICC membership review

Cricket Switzerland have introduced a new league format for domestic cricket season in 2021, keeping an eye on their re-submission application review by International Cricket Council (ICC) for Associate membership.

A two-tier 40-overs competiton structure has been formulated, with Cricket Switzerland Premier League (CSPL) consisting of eight teams, while the second tier will be called the Cricket Switzerland National League (CSNL), and will consist of fifteen teams.

Geneva CC, Zurich Nomads CC, St Gallen CC, Power CC, Zurich Crickets CC, Olten CC, Cossonay CC and Bern CC will compete in the Premier League competition, whcih will take place from April-September 2021.

Geneva SL CC, Geneva XI Stars CC, Winterthur CC, CERN CC, GICC, Aargau CC, Zug CC, Zurich Lions CC, Pakhtoon CC, Novartis CC and new admittances Geneva United, Basel, Wettingen & Swiss Afghans have been split according to geography between an eastern, central and western divisions.

Playing on a home & away basis, the top two teams from each division, plus the two best 3rd-placed teams will make up a play-off round. The finalists will replace the bottom two teams in the premier league for the next edition.

The T20 domestic competition will also see an overhaul, with the 2021 edition of Swiss Mr Pickwick Twenty20 League to compriseĀ of 23 teams, the most since its inception in 2004.

The T20 group-stages will be spread across three regional divisions (west, central & east), plus 7 play-off matches with the top two from the west and the top three from the central & east qualifying for the play-off stage. The quarter-finals are scheduled to take place on 29th August and the Finals day will be played on 12th September 2021.
