Cricket Switzerland has announced that it will be filing an application for ICC’s associate membership before the end of the year. If granted in the Annual General Meeting of ICC in 2021, Switzerland will be back with Associate status after a gap of 8 years, since it’s membership was revoked in 2012.
The Cricket Board will be submitting their application satisfying the qualification criteria for Associate sponsorship to the ICC in November 2020.
Cricket Switzerland currently has a domestic competition structure in place for both senior & youth cricket and a development plan for women’s cricket. The organisation is recognised by Swiss Olympic Council as well, which ensures legal representation of the sport in the country, and avoids any conflict caused by formation of any other rival association, which was the main reason behind their membership suspension in 2012 due to non-compliance.
Switzerland has been very much active in International cricket during the past 8 years, having taken part in competitions across Europe including Central European Cup tournament, and bi-lateral series. The Association also showcased their men’s domestic cricket in 2020, when they hosted the European Cricket Series T10 event at St. Gallen, in collaboration with European Cricket Network (ECN).
