Schedule announced for 11-nation ICC Women’s T20 Africa Qualifiers in Botswana

International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced the Women’s regional qualifiers dates for qualification pathway towards 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Botswana Cricket Association (BCA), will be hosting the Africa region qualifiers from September 07th – 20th, 2021 and all the matches will be live-streamed by ICC in collaboration with IMG media on their digital platforms (ICC.tv).

Botswana will host Women’s squads from Zimbabwe, Namibia, Uganda, Tanzania, Cameroon, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Eswatini (Swaziland), Nigeria and Mozambique in the 11-nation tournament, from which the top team will qualify for the global qualifiers, and there will be opportunity for the team finishing second as well, as the final position in the 8-nation global qualifiers will be filled by the highest ranked team in the regional qualifiers on the November cut-off date, who missed out on topping their regional event table. Group A includes host’s Botswana, Eswatini (Swaziland), Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe, while Group B includes Cameroon, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda.

The qualifiers in 2021 will see three ICC Africa associate members, Cameroon and host’s Botswana make their debut in an ICC Women’s cricket event towards T20 World Cup qualification pathway. The previous edition in 2019 was hosted and won by Zimbabwe, who were replaced by Namibia in the global qualifiers, as in July 2019, the International Cricket Council (ICC) suspended Zimbabwe Cricket, with the team barred from taking part in ICC events.

The designated tournament Hotel, Avani Hotels and Resorts, will be a zoned off area for use by the ICC. All personnel of the local service providers including, transport (Vincent Travels), sanitization & hygiene (Clean All Services), security (Security Services), catering (Mirchi Masala), paramedics (Life Link), as well as the housekeeping and F&B staff of Avani, Chief Medical Officer designate, BCA Groundstaff, BCA Liaison personnel, IMG crew, ICC organizing team and the BCA organizing team will also be accommodated at the Avani for the duration of the tournament and travel will be restricted only from the hotel to the ground and back.
