Hong Kong, Nepal and UAE U19 team’s had a disappointing start to their respective campaigns on the opening day of 2018 ACC U19 Asia Cup at various venues in Bangladesh. While Hong Kong and Nepal went down without much of a fight against Pakistan U19 and India U19 respectively, UAE rallied for some time before going down against Afghanistan U19.

Not much of a break will be in favour for either Hong Kong or UAE, as both dive right back into action on the 2nd consecutive day of the tournament as they take on Sri Lanka and India respectively and another loss could very well end their chances of qualifying into the finals of the U19 Asia Cup.

Both Hong Kong U19 and UAE U19 were left undone in their batting department and it will take a lot more than what they displayed on the opening day to pose any challenge to their opponents on the 2nd day of the competition.

Mujeeb Zadran, the young mystery spinner from Afghanistan’s Khost region, will make his maiden appearance in 2018 VIVO IPL in Apr 2018 with Kings XI Punjab, who bought him in the IPL auctions for INR 4 Crores.

Mujeeb started training and playing cricket at the age of 12 in an Academy set up by Afghanistan’s National cricketer and Mujeeb’s cousin, Noor Ali Zadran. He joined Khost Province Academy afterwards.

Mujeeb recently revealed to Indian daily, Midday, that he used to watch YouTube videos of Sunil Narine & Ajantha Mendis to learn the art of gripping the ball during his delivery stride.

“I started playing a lot of tape ball cricket. While bowling with that ball, I struggled to grip it, so I started flicking the ball with my fingers. Then, I watched some youtube videos of Sunil Narine and Ajantha Mendis and learnt how they gripped the ball and flicked it with their middle finger. I started doing that and initially did not put power behind it.

It would be like a flighted off-spinner, but lowly, and after a lot practice, I eventually began to get some power behind my deliveries and was able to flick it harder” he said. For his full interview, click here.

Mujeeb’s skills have captured the attention of global Cricketing fraternity, as he has displayed during the ICC U19 World Cup in Jan 2018 and the recently concluded ACC U19 Asia Cup in 2017.

Buoyed by a match-winning knock by their wicket-keeper, Ikram Ali (107 n.o off 113 deliveries), Afghanistan U-19 managed to post 248/7 in their 50 overs on a slow track after their openers, Rahmanullah Zadran (40 off 53) and Ibrahim Zadran (36 off 76) provided a cautious start to the innings which saw them put up 61 runs for the 1st wicket.

Muhammad Musa (3/46), Shaheen Afridi (2/42) and Hassan Khan (1/36) were the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan U-19.

Pakistan chase got off to a horrible start as Mujeeb Zadran removing both the openers in the first 4 overs and were soon reduced to 42/5 in the 16th over as Qais Ahmad picked up 2 wickets including the important wicket of Muhammad Taha to end any realistic attempt at chasing the target.

Wickets kept falling as Mujeeb effected a run-out and picked up 2 more wickets to leave Pakistan U-19 at 61/8 in the 21st over. Qais Ahmad & Mujeeb completed the rout as they picked up the last 2 wickets to have Afghanistan U-19 bowl out Pakistan U-19 for only 63 runs in 22.1 overs to win by a big margin of 185 runs.

Afghanistan U-19 stormed into the final of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup after a dominating display of cricket against Nepal

Afghanistan U-19 stormed into the final of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup after a dominating display of cricket against Nepal U-19 in the 2nd semi-final to set up a Finale clash with Pakistan U-19, whom they defeated in the group match at the start of the tournament.

Nepal U-19 were handed a Mujeeb ur Rahman’s brilliant spell of 6/28, a good support act from Qais Ahmad (2/23) and 2 run-out’s as they skittled out for a meagre 103 in 28 overs. Anil Sah (50 off 57) stood among the ruins for the better part of the entire Nepali innings as none of the other batsmen could mount any resistance to Afghan bowlers. The only reasonable partnership came for the 5th wicket as Anil and Bhim Sharki put on 30 runs.

Nepal knew their only chance was to somehow bowl out Afghanistan under their total and started with Sandeep Lamichhane with the ball along with Kamal Airee. Airee accounted for Ibrahim Zadran but Rahmanullah Gurbaz (71 off 65) took the attack to the bowlers and scored a quickfire knock of to take Afghanistan U-19 to 94/1 in 18 overs, when rain stopped play with only 10 runs required for victory.

Once the match resumed, Afghanistan U-19 lost the wickets of both Gurbaz and Ikram Ali to Pawan Sarraf and Sandeep Lamichhane, before Darwish Rasooli finished off the match with 2 big sixes. Afghanistan U-19 reached 108/3 in 20.3 overs to win the match by 7 wickets.

Pakistan U-19 reached the final yesterday after a nerve wrecking 1 run victory (By Duckworth-Lewis Method) over Bangladesh U-19 in a rain-curtailed match which forced the match to get over without any further play after the 38th over in the Pakistan U-19’s chase of Bangladeshi total. Pakistan U-19 now face the rampaging Afghans and their defeat against their finale opponents in the group match and the manner of defeat will spur them up for a better performance in the final.

Afghanistan U-19 boys now have a major chance of winning their maiden International trophy and showcase their rise in both Asian and World cricket.

Afghanistan U-19 and Nepal U-19 teams victories over Pakistan and India in the ongoing ACC U-19 Asia Cup in Malaysia

Afghanistan U-19 and Nepal U-19 teams victories over Pakistan and India in the ongoing ACC U-19 Asia Cup in Malaysia has opened up both the groups in terms of standings in the points table.

Now, it has come to the situation that on the final day of group match action, Afghanistan, Nepal and India are in a must win scenarios to claim a spot in the semi-finals.

India U-19 will take on Bangladesh U-19 in their final game. Bangladesh have notched up 2 victories so far and with a big margin victory over Malaysia U-19, their net run-rate should see them through to semis if they do not lose badly against India. India, however, have no other option other than a win to see if they go through on points or net run-rate. A win for Bangladesh though, will see India getting knocked out of the competition.

Nepal U-19 from the same group go against Malaysia U-19 and are in a similar situation to book a place in the semis either with points or net run-rate but have no other option than winning the match. After their record-breaking performance the other day, Nepali boys will be beaming with confidence to take their team through to the semis.

However, if India lose their match, then a win only will see Nepal qualify for the semis.

The situation is lot different for both Afghanistan U-19 and UAE U-19, who face each other in their final group match. A win for Afghanistan will see them through to the semis but a UAE win will end up seeing Afghanistan knocked out of the competition. Pakistan U-19 notched up their 2nd victory against Sri Lanka U-19 and are almost guaranteed a semifinal spot if Afghanistan does not manage to beat UAE convincingly tomorrow.

Sri Lanka U-19 have finished their campaign with 2 win out of 3 matches and now await the result of the Afghanistan & UAE match and will be hoping that UAE somehow manage to upset the young blue tigers.
