With the live streaming of the Women’s games and an exhibition T10 Men’s game reaching big numbers in viewership worldwide, Vanuatu Cricket CEO Shane Dietz have announced that the Men’s T10 Super League commencing May 21st will be live streamed globally as well. The Men’s T10 Super League replaces the originally planned 40-overs domestic tournament, which was scheduled to start the week after the resumption of cricket in the Asia-Pacific Island.

The tournament will be known as “BetBarter Vanuatu Blast” and will be contested by the top 3 men’s clubs in Vanuatu, namely Mele Tafea Bulls, Mighty Efate Panthers and Ifira Sharks. All teams will play each other thrice in the group-stages, before the top 2 teams meet in the final of the competition on 13th Jun 2020. Two matches will be played on each match day.

The Men’s national squad players got the opportunity to play an exhibition T10 game prior to Women’s matches and going by the result, lot of close contests will be expected in the T10 Super League. This will be the first time a T10 tournament is being organised at the domestic level in Vanuatu and all the matches will be played at Vanuatu Cricket Ground – Hybrid Oval.

Vanuatu Cricket will organize the Women’s club super league finals day on 25th Apr 2020, with the matches being livestreamed on Vanuatu Cricket’s Facebook page. Vanuatu Cricket President Shane Dietz has also announced that there will be a men’s T10 exhibition game taking place before the women’s matches. The T10 matches will feature the national squad members of Vanuatu.

The men’s 40-over club championship will begin on the following weekend, 02nd May 2020, with seven teams competing for the title. In the Women’s club super league finals day, Power House Sharks will take on Tafea Black Birds in the semi-final in the morning, with the winner facing off in the final against Mele Bulls, who have been undefeated in the four-team competition.

“We have decided that it is safe for us to resume our cricketing activities,” said Shane Deitz, CEO, Vanuatu Cricket. “However, we understand that there is still a need for physical distancing and we will do our best to ensure that we abide by physical distancing recommendations and also maintain good hygiene.”

“We understand the devastation that TC Harold has caused on the northern islands of Vanuatu and we would like to give back to the communities that we have been working closely with on Santo that have been affected,” explained Melissa Fare, Vanuatu Cricket marketing manager.

It is what happened with Vanuatu visiting Malaysia for the first round of ICC CWC Challenge League Group A tournament, and then extending their stay in the country to play a 5-match T20I series against the host’s. And a strong showing enabled Vanuatu to register their maiden T20I series win against Malaysia, with the series scoreline reading 3-2 in favour of the visitors.

Vanuatu had wrapped up the series win in the 4th match of the series itself, winning three matches, with Malaysia winning the final game of the series to bring the scoreline to a respectable 3-2. For Vanuatu, Patrick Matautaava registered a maiden T20I century in the 2nd game of the series. Matautaava (195 runs in 5 innings) and Joshua Rasu (191 runs in 5 innings) were the top scorer’s for Vanuatu, while Ariff Jamaludeen (159 runs in 5 innings) and Syed Aziz Syed Mubarak (140 runs in 4 innings) were the top scorer’s. Virandeep Singh (127 runs) and Nalin Nipiko (121 runs) were the other batsmen to score more than 100+ runs in the series.

Among the bowlers, Pavandeep Singh of Malaysia was the highest wicket-taker in the series with 10 scalps from 5 matches, whereas Nalin Nipiko (9 wickets from 5 innings), Andrew Mansale, Sharvin Muniandy and Simpson Obed (6 wickets each) were the other successful bowlers during the series.
