Cricket Oman to host Canada and Nepal for ODI Tri-series in October 2026

Cricket Oman (OC) will be hosting the Men’s National Teams of Canada and Nepal for an ODI Tri-series from October 09th – 19th, 2026, which will be the twenty-second (22nd) round of the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle (Qualification pathway tournament towards 2027 CWC Global Qualifier). Top four (4) after completion of 36 ODIs for all in the CWC League 2 Championship will qualify directly for 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier (CWCQ). Bottom four (4) teams in the points table will then compete in CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, along with four (4) teams from the Challenge League competitions (Top 2 teams from both groups) for four (4) spots in CWCQ.

As per the original Men’s Associate FTP, T20Is (either a Tri-series or Bi-lateral) were scheduled as part of each Tri-series in the CWC League 2 ODI Championship, but it depends on the participating boards on their own arrangements, as it is not part of ICC funding.

Four spots from Global Qualifiers into 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup

The qualification pathway for the fourteen (14)-team ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 was confirmed by International Cricket Council (ICC) with ten (10) teams gaining automatic qualification. The ten (10) will comprise South Africa and Zimbabwe as Full Member host’s and the next eight (8) highest ranked teams on the ICC MRF Tyres ODI Rankings at the cut-off date of 31st March 2027. The remaining four (4) teams will qualify via the ICC CWC Global Qualifier set to take place in April/May 2027, which might see Namibia Men qualify to play in (depending upon their final finishing positions in the qualification pathway events), who are also co-hosting the event along with South Africa and Zimbabwe.

The top four (4) teams in the points table from CWC League 2 ODI Championship will qualify directly for the CWC Qualifier. They will be joined in the CWC Qualifier by four (4) teams coming through the CWC Qualifier Play-Offs as well as teams (2 of them) that don’t qualify automatically based on ICC ODI Rankings. The CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament (which will be played with ODI status) will comprise of the bottom four (4) teams in the CWC League 2 ODI Championship and the top two (2) teams from both Groups A and B from CWC Challenge League. The top four (4) teams in the Qualifier will then join the ten (10) direct qualifiers in the World Cup (Co-hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe and the other top eight ranked teams) in the fourteen (14) team Cricket World Cup lineup.

The teams ranked 2nd, 3rd and 4th in the Qualifier will compete in a single round-robin group stage format in Round 1 in the World Cup, from which the Top team will advance to Round 2, which will have twelve (12) teams divided into two (2) groups of six (6) teams each. The top three (3) teams from both the groups, along with the next highest placed team across both groups qualify for the Super 7 stage. The Super 7 stage will be a single round-robin group stage format, following which the top four (4) teams will qualify for the Semifinals.

Jersey Cricket to host Nepal and UAE Men for OD series in July 2026

Jersey Cricket will be hosting the Men’s National teams of Nepal and United Arab Emirates in separate bi-lateral One-day series in July 2026, comprising of two (2) matches each, at the at NCC Grainville cricket ground. Nepal Men will play their matches with the host on 13th and 15th, before travelling to Netherlands for Round 20 of 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI Championship.

The fixtures between UAE and the hosts’ will be taking place on 27th and 29th. UAE Team will then travel to Scotland for Round 21 of 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI Championship. Jersey and Nepal will be meeting for the first time in the 50-overs format, and the matches are eligible for List-A status, after the ICC update was announced on 01st June 2026 regarding Challenge League participating teams being allowed to play List-A status matches outside of only the Challenge League rounds.

Jersey and UAE have already met once in ODIs, during the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off Tournament held in Namibia.

CWC League 2 and Challenge League cycle to continue for 2027 World Cup qualification

The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualification pathway program events, CWC League 2 Championship and CWC Challenge League groups (A & B), will continue for the cycle towards qualification for the 2027 event being hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. After the scrapping of the ODI Super League for the 2027 cycle, Netherlands join the CWC League 2 competition structure. The Men’s national squads of Netherlands, Scotland, Oman, Nepal, Namibia, United States of America, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Canada will be the eight (8) countries will be part of the 2024-2027 cycle of CWC League 2 Championship, with UAE and Canada having secured their spots in the Championship by finishing above Jersey and Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the 2023 CWC Qualifier play-off tournament in Namibia in March/April 2023. Jersey and PNG will be getting into the Challenge League cycle in the next cycle.

The Challenge League Play-off qualifier, which was hosted by Malaysia Cricket in February 2024, featured teams from Italy, Bermuda, Malaysia, Vanuatu, Kuwait, Bahrain, Tanzania and Saudi Arabia, from which the top four (4) teams joined the Challenge League groups A and B for the 2027 qualification cycle. Both Challenge League groups will have three (3) rounds each, with all teams in each group getting to play fifteen (15) List-A games and at the end of which, the top two (2) teams from both the groups will advance to the CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament (which will be played with ODI status).

The top four (4) teams in the points table, at the end of 24 rounds of ODI Tri-series (a total of 144 ODIs), will qualify directly into the CWC Qualifier, while the bottom four (4) teams in CWC League 2 will join with the four (4) teams from CWC Challenge League (Top 2 from each group) to constitute the CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, from which the top four (4) teams will advance to the CWC Qualifier.

In an update provided during the ICC Board meeting in May 2026, all the twelve (12) Teams in the Challenge League competitions can now play against CWC League 2 Teams and within themselves, 50-overs format matches with List-A status.

Dutch Pro-series to prepare Netherlands squad for upcoming CWC League 2 ODI Tri-series

Netherlands Cricket Board will be hosting the Men’s Pro-series in the months of May and July 2026, as the National team players and other hopefuls prepare to compete for spots, ahead of the National team’s tour to Canada for Round 19 and host Round 20 at home, of 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 ODI Championship Tri-series in June 2026. This year, a third team has been added to the competition, this increasing the player base and competition level of the Pro-series competition, which has always been used as a benchmark competition for National squad selection.

The domestic One-day TopKlasse tournament is also ongoing, and the players are going to keep playing the 50-overs format for their respective clubs, to continue their preparations, once the squad gets announced for the Canadian tour. The Pro-series in the T20 format will be taking place in July 2026, with all the three (3) teams competing.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will be hosting the Men’s National teams from United States of America (USA) and Scotland for an ODI Tri-series from May 12th – 22nd, 2026, which will be the eighteenth (18th) round of the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle (Qualification pathway tournament towards 2027 CWC Global Qualifier). Top four (4) after completion of 36 ODIs for all in the CWC League 2 Championship will qualify directly for 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier (CWCQ). Bottom four (4) teams in the points table will then compete in CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, along with four (4) teams from the Challenge League competitions (Top 2 teams from both groups) for four (4) spots in CWCQ.

Cricket Nepal is also using this opportunity to provide competitive fixtures for the Nepal A squad, comprising of players, who have performed well in domestic tournaments like Nepal Premier League and PM Cup One-day tournament. It also provides the likes of USA and Scotland to get used to the conditions, before the start of the League 2 fixtures.

Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will be hosting the Men’s National teams from United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman for an ODI Tri-series from April 21st – May 05th, 2026, which will be the sixteenth (16th) round of the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle (Qualification pathway tournament towards 2027 CWC Global Qualifier). Top four (4) after completion of 36 ODIs for all in the CWC League 2 Championship will qualify directly for 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier (CWCQ). Bottom four (4) teams in the points table will then compete in CWC Qualifier Play-off tournament, along with four (4) teams from the Challenge League competitions (Top 2 teams from both groups) for four (4) spots in CWCQ.

The Tri-series was originally scheduled for March 2026, but got postponed due to ongoing conflicts in the West Asia region, due to which the teams of Oman and UAE were unable to travel to Nepal. UAE Men will be playing two (2) T20 International matches (with ICC T20I team ranking points) with Nepal to start their tour on April 20th and 21st, 2026.
