Another year, Another start for Jersey Men, to again showcase why they are already in the same tier as Scotland, Netherlands and Italy in the European cricket and NOT behind them., as they begin their 2026 season with a four (4)-match T20 series against the visiting “A” team of Scotland on April 18th and 19th, 2026 at the Grainville Cricket Ground. This series will begin the year, in which, the Men’s team will be again taking part in the European sub-regional qualifier towards 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, and the final round (3rd) of the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Challenge League tournament, through which the road to ODI status beckons, after having lost the opportunity to qualify for the current cycle of CWC League 2 ODI Championship in the previous edition of the CWC Qualifier play-off tournament.

While call up to England is on the radar for Jersey’s Asa Tribe, who has already played for the England Lions team, this upcoming year still could see him playing most of International cricket for Jersey, if he is not selected for England’s senior team.

Cricket Scotland have already published their annual calendar, where as many as four (4) series have been earmarked for the “A” team this year, which is emphasized on providing opportunity, but also performances in terms of future international selection considerations.

After multiple postponements in 2020 and 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2nd and 3rd rounds of CWC

After multiple postponements in 2020 and 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the 2nd and 3rd rounds of CWC Challenge League B is finally going to take place in Kampala, Uganda from June 14th – 28th, 2022 and in Jersey from August 04th – 14th, 2022. Earlier, Jersey Cricket were scheduled to host the 2nd round of the group “B” tournament from September 01st – 14th, 2021 before it got postponed and then there were talks of Hong Kong Cricket hosting it in December 2021 but that also did not materialize. Oman Cricket (OC) played host’s to Men’s teams from Jersey, Kenya, Uganda, Italy and Bermuda in the 1st round of the group tournament in December 2019.

Challenge League groups are part of the qualification pathway towards 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, where the top team from each of the group will join the bottom 4 teams from ICC CWC League 2 Championships in the Challenge Play-off tournament, from where the top 2 teams will advance towards 2022 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers. While the matches in CWC Challenge League are given List-A status, the added incentive for the top team in both A & B group, when they advance to ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-Off will be to play matches against the other four team’s will ODI status.

Uganda recorded a perfect start winning all their matches in the 1st round of Challenge League Group B in Oman, while Jersey also recorded a perfect five in the 2nd round of the competition held in Uganda. Uganda, Jersey and Hong Kong are all separated by a margin of only 2 points in the points table currently and the final set of fifteen (15) List-A games in Jersey will decide the winner for the competition, which began back in 2019.

In a major boost to Cricket Boards of United States of America (USA), Namibia and Scotland, the International Cricket Council (ICC) have confirmed the 14 host countries of the ICC men’s white ball events in the upcoming 2024-2031 cycle. The awarding of the events to preferred hosts is subject to the completion of the host agreements and the ICC will now work closely with Members to finalize arrangements. 17 Members submitted a total of 28 proposals to host the eight ICC Men’s white ball events.

While Scotland have previously co-hosted the Cricket World Cup event in 1999, it will be first time that USA and Namibia will be co-hosting the ICC marquee events. USA Cricket and Cricket West Indies (CWI) will be hosting the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be utmost importance for ICC to showcase the sport globally and improve its chances to have it featured in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and has been a strategic plan to promote and develop cricket and related commercial activity in North America and the Caribbean region.

Cricket Namibia will be co-hosting the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup in collaboration with Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC). Kenya co-hosted the tournament when it took place in the Africa region back in 2003, where Namibia made their maiden appearance in the 50-overs tournament. With Namibia’s performance in the recently concluded T20 World Cup in UAE and Oman applauded by everyone, this hosting opportunity further provides the Cricket Board to grow the sport in the country, which has already seen a massive rise in the past couple of years in the grass-roots level.

Cricket Scotland will co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup tournament in 2030 in collaboration with England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and Cricket Ireland. Scotland have previously hosted Global Qualifiers for T20 World Cup events, but to host the main event in itself will be a massive opportunity, provided how limited International cricket is played at home in a calendar year with only a handful of teams visiting them for bi-lateral tours (which is definitely improving and scheduled plans were dented due to COVID-19 in 2020).

As many as three upcoming ODI tri-series events in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 due to take

As many as three upcoming ODI tri-series events in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 due to take place between the months of March and May, have been postponed because of COVID-19 pandemic, as announced by International Cricket Council (ICC).

The list of postponed series includes the one in Oman, who were due to host USA and Nepal for six ODIs between 19th – 28th March 2021. The next two series that have been postponed were scheduled to take place in Papua New Guinea, who were due to host Oman and Scotland between 14th – 24th April, followed with the series in which they were scheduled to host USA and Namibia between 13th – 23rd May 2021.

The postponements are due to the current travel restrictions between countries, the quarantine time required before matches and the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. The ICC will be working with the host nations and participating Members to find an appropriate window where the qualification pathway fixtures can be safely and practically rescheduled before the cut-off date of 28th February 2023.

ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley said in the ICC press release “We have decided to postpone the three upcoming series involving six Members in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 competition. The ICC’s priority continues to be to protect the well-being of players, coaches, officials and fans. We have fully assessed the situation with both hosts and all participating Members, and taking into account current travel restrictions, quarantine time before matches and on government and public health authority advice in relation to COVID-19, the best course of action was to postpone these series.”

The next set of tri-series scheduled in the competition is in July 2021, where Scotland are scheduled to host Nepal and Namibia for six ODIs. The Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 competition, forms part of the qualifying pathway program to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

Following Netherlands win in the 2015-2017 ICC World Cricket League Championships in Dec 2017, they were not only awarded ODI

Following Netherlands win in the 2015-2017 ICC World Cricket League Championships in Dec 2017, they were not only awarded ODI status but also became the 13th nation to take part in ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) Super League from 2020-2022. Now with most of the League 2 set of tri-series events postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the pathway structure could very well get stretched into 2023.

Being part of the ODI Super League is a big catch for an Associate nation, as it not only guarantees a total of 24 ODI matches (3 ODI’s each against 8 Full member countries as depicted in the ICC_Tours), but also the opportunity to get more commercial and broadcast revenues through sponsorships.

CWC League 2 Team’s – All images by ICC OMZ @ICC (Twitter)

The 13th spot in the Super League will again be up for grabs again as the team ranked 13th at the end of the ODI Super League in 2022/2023 will have to compete with the top team from ICC CWC League 2 from 2019-2022, in order to claim the coveted spot in the next edition of the Super League, which will be direct qualification pathway for 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.

It provides for a highly competitive League 2, as all the 7 countries in the league (Scotland, UAE, Nepal + Top 4 teams from ICC WCL Division 2) will not only fight for the top 3 spots into the 2022 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, but also the top spot in the league will bring them one step closer to challenge the 13th ranked team in 2020-2023 Super League for a place in the Super League and get to play 36 ODI matches against the 12 Full members in the next 3-year Super League period.

The winner between the League 2 winners and 13th ranked team will play the next edition of the Super League, while the team losing the challenge will be relegated to ICC CWC League 2 for it’s next edition.
