Tanzania Women remained unbeaten and completed a clean sweep of all challenge to win their maiden Kwibuka Women T20 Tournament at Kigali in Rwanda, which saw Tanzania compete against the likes of Uganda, host’s Rwanda and Mali from Jun 15th – 23rd at the Gahanga International Stadium.
Diane Mary Bimenyimana of Rwanda was adjudged the player of the tournament for making 155 runs and taking 7 wickets. Rita Musamali of Uganda Women was the highest scorer with 189 runs to her name. Joyce Mary Apio of Uganda Women was the highest wicket-taket with 10 wickets to her name.
Debutants Mali were heavily criticized for their performances from so-called “purists” & “pundits” on social media after getting all out for only 6 runs in one game and 11 in another and also conceding over 300+ in another game, but when when RCA General Manager Emma Byiringiro handed over the Fair Play Award trophy to their captain Youma Sangare, the entire team were in tears of emotion and joy as the displayed more than just zeal in coming out from the dark and announcing their arrival in the International cricket scene. No matter the results, the shear joy of players representing their country in International arena is something worth to cherish for generations to come.
Uganda Women tried out few young players in the tournament and will be happy with the overall performance during the tournament, although losing twice to Tanzania Women will be a disappointing result for the ladies. For Rwanda Women, it was another International opportunity to continue their development and prepare for more matches in the future.
