Tanzania’s national men’s squad of 18 members along with head coach Steve Tikolo are touring Zimbabwe from Mar 14th – 20th, 2020 to start their preparations for ICC T20 World Cup Africa sub-regional qualifiers in Apr/May 2020 in South Africa. The squad will be playing six T20 matches against Zimbabwe’s domestic club, Mid West Rhinos at Kwekwe.
After the conclusion of the preparatory tour, the national squad will head back home before leaving for South Africa prior to the start of the tournament, which will be under the scanner on account of COVID-19 outbreak, which has led to postponement of several series/tournaments in the past 2 weeks including ICC events like League 2 and Challenge League rounds in USA and Malaysia. The Africa sub-regional Group A qualifiers involving Tanzania, Mozambique, Botswana, Cameroon, Sierra Leone and St.Helena is expected to be held in South Africa from Apr 25th – May 05th, 2020.
The tour will provide Steve Tikolo the opportunity to assess the players, before the squad is trimmed to the final 14 for the Africa Qualifiers event. The squad of 18 members were chosen from the group of 34 players, who were called up to train at Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Academy at the Muhimbili Primary School grounds, Annadil Burhani and University of Dar es Salaam grounds in Feb 2020.
