For the past couple of years, ICC Americas Team was taking part in Cricket West Indies Regional Super50 tournament. This year, owing to Canada’s participation during the same time in ICC WCL Division 2, USA Cricket were invited to take part in the competition, which they have accepted.
In a major step towards development of USA Cricket, they will join 6 teams from West Indies (franchise teams) along with Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) and English county sides Hampshire & Kent.
The timing wouldn’t have been better for Pubudu Dassanayeke’s men as they recently had a good tour of UAE and Oman, albeit winning only 1 fixture out of 5 on the entire tour. The Super50 event will give them much required exposure to play against good domestic/international players from both West Indies and England.
The Super50 tournament, to be played from Jan 30th – Feb 24th in Barbados and Antigua, will have USA grouped alongside Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Guyana and Kent in Group B.
If USA qualify from their group after a total of 8 50-overs games during the group phase, the Semi-finals will be held on Feb 21st & 22nd.
