The opening day of action in the inaugural edition of Super Women League, organised by Malaysian Cricket Association, saw impressive performances from players from Thailand and Myanmar among others (Malaysia, Singapore, Vanuatu and Australia) in the 2 games that took place at the Kinrara Oval.
Thailand’s Manatsawee Jatho’s spell with the ball helped Northern Queens defend their total and win their opening game against Eastern Lioness by a big margin, after Australia’s Adelaide Campion set up the Queens total with an unbeaten knock of 40. Thailand’s Phannita Maya and Myanmar’s Theint Theint Soe performed admirably with the ball for their respective team’s, however, Central Super Girls defended their total of 122 quite comfortably, as the local Malaysian players (Mas Elysa and Noor Hayati) combined well with Theint Theint Soe to bowl out the Jaguars for only 84 to register a big margin win of 38 runs.
Myanmar’s Khin Min Myat and Zin Tharaphy Kyaw made the most of the opportunity they got with the bat for their respective team’s. Australian trio of Adelaide Campion, Samantha Arnold and Elsa Hunter brought their experience of playing top-tier domestic cricket in Australia’a women’s domestic circuit and for the players from Associate members to have witnessed that first-hand and also playing alongside them is one of the top highlights of this tournament and as the games go along, will benefit them in the long run when they play for their respective countries in ACC/ICC level events in the future.
Central Super Girls and Northern Queens take on each other in the top-of-the-table clash while the Lioness take on the Jaguars, as both look to open their account in the points table on 30th Dec 2019.
