Thailand Women dominated the ASEAN Women’s T20 Cup tournament hosted by Cricket Thailand as they stayed unbeaten throughout the competition to finish with 5 wins from as many games. Tanzania Women impressed one and all as they defeated Hong Kong Women in their final group match to finish as runners-up in the 6-team tournament.
Indonesia Women finished third in the points table after defeating Malaysia Women by a nail-biting victory by 1 wicket to finish with 3 wins from 5 matches. Bhutan Women finished fourth in the standings after winning a solitary game from their 5 matches and 1 match getting washed out due to rains to finish with 3 points.
Hong Kong Women and Malaysia Women capped off disappointing campaigns in the tournament as they finished fifth and sixth in the standings.
Tanzania Women put up a good display with the bat against Hong Kong as they scored 110/3 in their 20 overs and then restricted them to 86/7 in their 20 overs to win the match by 24 runs on the final day of the event.
Thailand were utterly dominant in their final game against Bhutan as they skittled them out for only 16 runs and finished off the chase inside 2 overs but not before losing 2 wickets of their own.
Thailand Women will be taking part in ICC Women’s WorldT20 Global Qualifiers in Netherlands in Jun 2018 and will be the sole representation from the Asian region.
