Thailand join Group B in Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia

Bangladesh Women won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Dundee with 70-run win over Thailand Women in the final. With the win, Bangladesh join Australia, India, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka in Group A and runner-up Thailand join England, South Africa, West Indies and Pakistan in Group B in Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.

For the position play-off matches, Ireland Women finished 3rd in the qualifiers with a win over Papua New Guinea Lewas (4th), Scotland Women finished 5th in the final standings with their win over Netherlands Women (6th) and USA Women took the 7th spot with their maiden win of the tournament over Namibia Women (8th).

Scotland’s Kathryn Bryce was the highest run-scorer in the tournament with 168 runs in 4 innings, followed by Sanjida Islam (Bangladesh) with 156 runs in 5 innings, Sarah Bryce (Scotland) with 121 runs in 5 innings, Sterre Kalis (Netherlands) with 117 runs in 5 innings and Kim Garth (Ireland) with 100 runs in 5 innings. Chanida Sutthiruang was the highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets in 5 innings, followed by Nahida Akter (Bangladesh) with 10 wickets in 5 innings, Eimear Richardson (Ireland) with 9 wickets in 5 innings, and Kathrn Bryce (Scotland), Sibona Jimmy (Papua New Guinea) & Heather Siegers (Netherlands) with 8 wickets apiece in 5 innings.

Thailand’s Chanida Sutthiruang was declared as the player of the tournament. It will be a major TV exposure for Thailand Women, as the matches will be broadcasted worldwide during the T20 World Cup.
