KFC Big Bash League franchise, Sydney Thunder have raised $1,000 through its Thunder Foundation charitable arm, as the raised amount was donated to The Centre for Learning and Children’s Rights (CLCR) for construction of a cricket pitch in Heartland Academy in Kathmandu, Nepal, an educational project offering schooling opportunities to the underprivileged children of Kathmandu and broader Nepal.
CLCR is an Australian International not-for-profit organisation, which conducts educational and humanitarian projects in Nepal. CEO and founder, Patrick Price, said “CLCR’s role is to support Heartland Academy in the delivery of its programs, whilst working to build capacity and expand the influence and support to the Nepali communities. We have an outstanding success rate of over 90% of all graduates attaining full time employment in the first year after leaving our school.”

Construction of the cricket pitch at Heartland Academy is expected to be completed by mid-2018. Cricket gear and uniforms have also been provided to the students of Heartland Academy and the local community through the Thunder Foundation, the charitable arm of Sydney Thunder.
With Nepal gaining ODI status for the next four years and positive signs of reinstatement of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) during ICC’s annual general meeting in Jun 2018, Sydney Thunder and Thunder Nation will be hopefully, more than happy to collaborate with them in developing more programs and initiatives to promote the growth of the sport in the country’s grass-root levels.
