Top players to watch out for in ICC WCL Division 2 in Namibia

ICC WCL Division 2 starts from Apr 20th – 27th in Namibia with host’s Namibia joined by Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea, United States of America, Oman & Canada, with all team’s vying for the top 4 finishing spots to not only gain qualification for ICC CWC League 2 for 2023 ICC World Cup qualification, but also ODI status until 2022 ICC World Cup qualifiers.

With the amount of talent available on display from all the 6 countries, lets have a look at who we think will be the top players to watch out for in the tournament:

  1. Papua New Guinea – Charles Amini Jr, Lega Siaka, Assad Vala, Norman Vanua and Tony Ura
  2. Hong Kong – Anshuman Rath, Aizaz Khan, Ehsan Khan, Babar Hayat and Tanwir Afzal
  3. Oman – Zeeshan Maqsood, Aqib Ilyas, Bilal Khan, Fayyaz Butt and Khawar Ali
  4. Canada – Navneet Dhaliwal, Nikhil Dutta, Romesh Don, Saad bin Zafar and Nitish Kumar
  5. USA – Steven Taylor, Monank Patel, Timil Patel, Saurabh Netravalkar and Hayden Walsh
  6. Namibia – Gerhard Erasmus, Jan Frylinck, Christi Viljoen, Bernard Scholtz and Craig Williams

Namibia recently hosted the ICC U19 CWC Africa Division 1 qualifiers and all the venues to be used during WCL Division 2 were used for the tournament and with the Namibian domestic season also underway, the tracks at Wanderers, WAP and United grounds have been in use pretty heavily and lower scores in the range of 200-250 could be expected with good batting and disciplined bowling.

The tournament is expected to be the toughest in term’s of team’s participating in an WCL event with so much at stake. The above mentioned players will look to put in their best foot forward from the 1st round of group-stage action and not leave too much to get in the final 2 rounds, by which, most will know much about the outcome in the final ever edition of an WCL tournament.
