Rwanda Cricket to host ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier in August 2024

Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) will be hosting the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 qualifier from August 19th – 27th, 2024 at two (2) venues in Kigali (Gahanga International Cricket Stadium). RCA will host U19 Women’s team from Botswana, Mozambique, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Sierra Leone and Eswatini in the competition (Ghana team, who were originally part of the competition, will not be taking part). The originally announced fourteen (14)-nation qualifier has now been divided into Division 2 and Division 1 (likely basis being either performance in the 2022 qualifier or rankings of Women’s teams in ICC table). In a fitting testament to the fact that Women’s cricket at both senior and junior/age-group level is growing at a great pace in the African region, with the number of participating nations having gone up from nine (9) in 2022 to fourteen (14) in 2024.

All teams will play against each other in a single round-robin group stage format, following which the top two (2) team in the points table of the Division 2 tournament will advance to the Africa Qualifier, and will join the teams from Namibia, Nigeria, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Rwanda.
