UAE U19 continued their good run in the past 2 weeks, as they won their 10th consecutive U19 match by defeating Kuwait U19 in the final of the ACC U19 Asia Cup Western region qualifiers at Dubai International Stadium. The winning streak had started from the recently concluded ICC U19 CWC Asia Division 1 qualifiers, held in Malaysia.
As was decided at the announcement of the tournament that only the winner would be gaining entry into the main draw of ACC U19 Asia Cup, the organisers changed the decision during the tournament to allow both the finalist’s of the western region qualifiers to qualify for the main draw of U19 Asia Cup, which saw Kuwait qualify as well after their win over Saudi Arabia U19 in the semi-final. UAE U19 had qualified into the final after winning against Qatar U19 in the first semi-final.
It was a comfortable win for UAE U19 in the final, as they defeated Kuwait U19 by 90 runs. Batting first, UAE U19 made 231/7 in their 50 overs with half-centuries from Syed Haider and Vriitya Aravind Rudhravel. In reply, UAE bowlers did not let Kuwait batsmen settle as they got bowled out for only 141 to lose the contest. Earlier, in the group stages, both UAE and Kuwait remained unbeaten in their 3 matches in respective groups while Qatar and Saudi Arabia registered two wins of their own to finish 2nd in the groups.
Bahrain and Oman had a solitary win during the group stages, while Iran and Maldives had disappointing campaigns and remained without a win in the tournament.
