U-19 teams from UAE and Iran posted contrasting wins on the 2nd day of ACC U-19 Asia Cup Western region Qualifiers in Malaysia.
UAE U-19 played against Bahrain U-19, in a match dominated by the bowlers of both the teams. Batting first, UAE U-19 were bowled out for only 126 in 33.5 overs with George Saxon Patel (4/35), Rakshit Puppala (2/15) and the others bowled good lines and lengths to restrict the run-scoring for the UAE batsmen.
It was mainly due to Muhammad Ali’s 46 n.o off 81 deliveries, which held the innings together when wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Only Hrithik (28 off 43) managed to provide support to Ali for the 5th wicket, yielding 58 runs. But once Hrithik fell, the remaining batsmen could not stay with Ali for longer.
Bahrain U-19 batsmen failed horribly in the chase and match up to their bowlers performance as they were shot out for only 54 runs in 23.5 overs. Jagan Viajayakumar (33 off 68) was the lone batsmen to touch double-figures. Rahul Neelesh (6/25) and Fahad Nawaz (4/16) picked up all the 10 wickets to fall between them as UAE win by a big margin of 72 runs.
Iran U-19 came up against Maldives U-19 in the other match of the day. Iran batted first and managed to score 165 before getting bowled out in the 50th over. Faisal Mihan Doost (26 off 58), Hossein Balouchi (25 off 32) & Hossein Pirizehi (24 off 33) made the most contributions towards the team total. Hassan I S (2/4) and Hussain M H (2/11) were the pick of the bowlers for Maldives.
Maldives U-19 batted cautiously with Mafaaz Hussain (37 off 86) and Muzammil I E (31 off 88) but were making the asking rate go upwards. Maldives U-19 were still placed at 108/4 in the 39th over and were looking in great danger at 145/5 in the 48th over when the wickets started to fall in order to reach the target in 2-3 overs.
In the end, Maldives couldn’t even complete their 50 overs as they got bowled out for 150 in 49.1 overs to lose the tense match by only 15 runs.
Faisal Mihan Doost capped off a good all-round performance as he picked up 2/26 and got good support from Mohammad Naser (3/43) as Iran bowlers held off a tough finish to the match.
