Uganda to host Tanzania U19 Girls in a Tri-series in Jan 2020

With the announcement of the inaugural ICC U19 Girls Cricket World Cup in 2021 in Bangladesh, the regional qualification pathway for the event will be announced in due course of time. However, tournaments at the regional level to start preparing squads for ICC qualifiers are slowly starting to gather pace.

With China hosting the U19 Open Belt & Road Girls tournament earlier in Nov 2019, Uganda Cricket Association had announced that the inaugural Africa U19 Girls tournament will be played from Dec 16th – 21st, 2019. Uganda were supposed to host U19 Girls squads from Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda and Botswana in the 5-nation event, with matches to be played across Entebe, Kyambogo and Lugogo ovals.

However, due to unfortunate circumstances, the tournament did not go ahead as planned and has been postponed for the time being. Instead, Uganda will now host Tanzania U19 girls squad for a tri-series event, with the host’s fielding two sides, namely Uganda U19 and Uganda Select from Jan 13th – 17th, 2020. Each team will play against each other in a double round-robin group stage format, before the top 2 teams meet in the final on 17th Jan 2020.
