Uganda Cricket Association have been awarded the hosting rights for ICC World T20 Africa regional finals for qualification towards ICC World T20 2020 global qualifiers in May 2019.
The news was announced by Patricia Kambarami, development officer for ICC Africa region.
Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Namibia and Botswana will compete for the two spots available for qualification from the Africa region into the Global Qualifiers, that might take place around Oct/Nov 2019 (to be confirmed later).
Following ICC’s decision to award T20I status to all International matches played with member countries for men’s category effective 01st Jan 2019, all matches in the Africa regional finals will carry official T20I status.
The tournament will be held from 17th – 29th May, 2019 and will see Uganda host a major ICC tournament for the first time since hosting the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 in 2017.
